The month of Love

I don't know about you, but Valentine's Day always seems to creep up on me. It's hard getting into the Valentine's spirit since we aren't in our own place, but I've seen so many cute Valentine crafts on Pinterest that I've been dying to make. I got together with a couple of my girlfriends yesterday and we crafted our little hearts out, while keeping one eye on the little munchkins, of course! We made a Valentine banner with three simple and pretty dang cheap items. We bought some Valentine-y fabric, burlap, and twine. It was so simple to make, and I love how it turned out!

New Year, New Blog!

Me and a few friends of mine have a new blog called The Modest Wardrobe. This is a collaborative blog with helpful tips and ideas encouraging women to dress modestly, according to our fashion beliefs. While we are not experts, we hope to inspire women of all ages, backgrounds and heritages to feel confident in modesty and to see that you CAN be fashionable while dressing in this manner. Many times in our society, modesty is looked at as dull, drab, and old fashioned but we at The Modest Wardrobe think otherwise. Modest fashion can be fun, trendy, stylish, elegant and sophisticated.

At The Modest Wardrobe you'll be able to see before and after photos, guest bloggers, read personal struggles & triumphs, tips & tricks, and DIY. We'll also include many examples for dressing during pregnancy & post partum, swimming, sports, date nights, and church.

We hope you enjoy reading it, and feel free to follow us and add a button to your own blog! If you have any suggestions or would like to be a guest blogger, let us know... we love feedback.

Dessert Hummus

So, every year my family gets together the Sunday before Christmas for our annual Christmas Home Evening. It's been a tradition for years. We have dinner, then we read the birth of Jesus Christ from the bible. The kids dress up as shepherds, Mary and Joseph and use a doll as baby Jesus and reinact the story. Then we sing Christmas songs about Jesus and then the fun Christmas songs. After the program we all pile in my brother-in-laws truck and drive around the neighborhood caroling. Along the way, we stop and leave a few Secret Santa gifts. The kids look forward to this night every year. I love that they get so excited to give to others. It's such a warm, fuzzy feeling!

So, to get to the point of my post, I made a dessert hummus that seemed to be a big hit at the party. I wanted to share it with you all. I know not everyone is a fan, but if you like hummus, I think you'll love this.

Dessert Hummus

1 1/2 c. chickpeas (1 can, drained) 250 g.
1/8 t. + 1/16 t. salt
tiny bit over 1/8 t. baking soda
2 t. vanilla
* 1/4 c. nut butter
* up to 1/4 c. nondairy milk (start w/ 1 T., add more as needed)
2/3 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. chocolate chips
2-3 T. oats

Add all ingredients (except chocolate chips) to a blender and blend until smooth. Then mix in the chocolate chips. Serve with graham crackers.

* I used peanut butter instead of nut butter, because I didn't have any on hand. It did taste a lot like peanut butter cookie dough, but it was still yummy.

* It's okay to use regular milk if you don't want to go to the store just for nondairy milk that you'll never use again!

In Transition

Well hello! So, I know it's been months since I posted, but we've been in transition here. We recently moved so I've been busy unpacking and getting our little family settled in our new place. I haven't done much crafting, obviously, but I'm anxious to get back into it. I have so many projects I want to do, but very little time, and very, very little space. I'm afraid I might have to wait until Spring when it warms up and I can use the garage as my work space. My mom and I did a little Christmas project the other day that I would be happy to share, but it wasn't much :) I always forget to take before pics, because I'm so anxious to get to the project, but I have an after pic. If you saw how this wreath looked before, the after pic would blow your socks off. This wreath was frumpy and sad looking. My mom has probably had it for decades, it totally came from the pink/mauvy 90's. So bad! So, we took all the pink berry sprigs off of the wreath and layed them on a garbage bag on the grass and spray painted our little hearts out. My mom chose silver for Christmas. Then we added a red bow to the bottom, and whala! I think it's gorgeous. Perfect for the Holidays.

Happy Halloween!

I put up halloween decorations weeks ago, but I'm just now getting to blog about it. I was feeling a little crafty this halloween and had fun decorating this year! I hope you all have a safe and haunting halloween!!

I printed this cute free halloween printable online and then painted a plain black frame with clear glitter and framed it. I love birds, and this black crow is perfect for halloween!

My halloween mantel

Again, I printed this free halloween printable and then framed it. I love the look of the glitter on the black frame, so cool!

Geh, this picture is so dark. I made a "Boo" banner out of some burlap I had lying around and hung it on the front door.

Last, I spray painted these little carvable pumpkins I found at Dollar Tree with silver spray paint (a project I did for my mom's b-day party) and then sat them on a couple candle holders I had in the garage that were collecting dust.

Book Page Topiaries

What do you do with leftover book page punchouts from a previous project? Well, you make a fun topiary! I had painted the three pots several months ago and just had them sitting on my piano, empty. Now I have something to fill them with! I had a punching party one night and punched a whole book (The Devil Wears Prada!) and then gave the punch back to my friend. Unforuntaely, I was only able to finish two topiaries. I didn't want to ask to borrow the punch again, since I'd had it longer than I promised. So, I need to figure out something fun to do with the third topiary. I love the way they turned out.

Exciting news!

Soooo, I was asked to be a guest blogger on a friend's craft blog. This might sound super nerdy, but I was so excited! Little old me, who has a craft blog of my own, with ZERO followers, a measly little scrap in the ginormous blogging world... ME. Of course I said yes! So, check out my first special guest blogging appearance here. Super-duper cool, I'm pretty much famous!
